CLEAN-UP DAY #2
SATURDAY, JUNE 26
BILL FURNAS - CHAIRMAN
COMMON AREA COMMITTEE

Dear Neighbor,

This letter is from the Walden Woods Common Area Committee.  We are looking for volunteers to help us address a fire danger that currently exists in the Common Area.  On Saturday, June 26 we have organized a morning and early afternoon of work in the Common Area, followed by a Bar-B-Que for the volunteers and their families.  Please join us and help make Walden Woods a safer place to live this summer.

When you are puttering around in your back yard, there's nothing quite like the reaction you have when you hear a cracking sound coming from the Common Area: there's a cold sweat that freezes you in your tracks and then your start looking around for hoses and water, and you try to imagine that there is some way you can stop a fire.  This has happened to us twice in the last ten years: Once we had airplanes dive bombing the Common Area with fire retardant and the other time fire engines were brought in to stop the fire.  We are keeping an eye on the Common Area, trying to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

So why do we need volunteers?

  • Well, with our homeowner's dues of $64 per house per year that does not leave much money that is ear marked for the Common Area.  So the option of just hiring the work out is not there.

So what's in it for you if you volunteer?

  • Well, three things: A safer community, fire wood and a free Bar-B-Que.  In the early afternoon, all the fire wood that's been cut will be divided, loaded into pickup trucks and delivered to your drive way.  You, of course, will have to stack it.  But then you can take a shower, and bring your family to the Bar-B-Que.

So what are we doing?

  • We will be cutting down dead trees, cutting out the firewood, and making two large brush piles.  Later, probably a week or two later, Placer County will turn the brush piles into two large piles of wood chips.  The wood chips will be available to homeowners who wish to use them.

What do we need to get this work done?

  • We need chain saws, pickup trucks, a flatbed truck and muscle.

How do I help?

  • Meet at 8345 Walden Woods Way for coffee and doughnuts at 7:45AM Saturday, June 26.  Work will start at 8:00AM.

  • Please RSVP to Bill or Caroline at 652-0361.

Please note that it is not OK to just show up Saturday morning: you must RSVP.  There are two reasons for this: First, we need to coordinate our resources and secondly we need to know how many are coming to the Bar-B-Que.

Thanks for making Walden Woods a safer place to live
