We had a good Clean-up Day! Thanks
to all the Current Members, and the Board Members that we keep updated, and Denese Holden
and Les Walshaw for their time and effort. Most of us were at it from 7:30AM to
4:00PM. That's 8 and 1/2 hrs! So what did we accomplish?:
- Graded the fire breaks.
- Repaired and re-graded the two culvert crossings.
- Repaired and re-graded the fire break road along Los Lagos.
- Flattened the two mogul fields although there's two moguls left from the small mogul
field that biker's are still using.
- Re-seeded the flattened mogul fields.
- Chained sawed trees that were fire hazards or were blocking fire break roads: left fire
wood stacked for anyone to take home.
- Piled brush in three areas: one each by the each mogul field and one by the fire pit.
- Cleaned up know "trash areas" and loaded trash in Gail & Mike's truck.
So what did it cost?
Tractor $259.60
Gravel $206.99
Seed and stuff $61.43
Lunch and drinks $51.72
Fire permit $56.50
TOTAL $636.24
So what did we learn? As a group we responded very well to adjusting what needed to
be done.
- Example: During our planning meeting we decided on 2 yards of gravel: We used 7!
- Example: During our planning meeting we decided not to grade the fire breaks: we graded
the fire breaks.
Special thanks to:
- Jim and Tadd for riding the tractor all day.
- Stan and Marion for driving to Auburn the Friday before to get our fire permit.
- Mike Sillers and Mary Blanton for acquiring poison oak!
We also learned that teens are still using the fire pits for a party the evening of the
clean up. Fire Marshal Keith Burson indicated that leaflets where being passed out at Del
Oro High that Friday indicating there would be a gathering in Walden Woods Saturday
evening
We've got signs!
Thanks to Gail for overseeing the sign process. We've got 'em now.
