WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY
June 2001 Email News Update

Last minute reminder - Saturday, June 2nd Block Party:
Calling all barbeques! Cindy Fuzie (652-8549) reminds us that the next Walden Woods Block party is this Saturday, June 2nd at 5:00. You can find it at the end of Mimus Lane. We'll have the basics - hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and sodas. Bring your utensils and anything you'd like to share, barbeque or drink. Prepare to party!

Internet Connections:
Are you dissatisfied with your 26K dial up connection to the internet? If you're in the Woodrock area, you can get cable modems (ask Chris McAfee for info). Otherwise it's standard dial up, ISDN or satellite - none of which are very attractive. Frank Sindelar has been petitioning with PacBell. If you want to help the process to get DSL in Walden Woods and Los Logos, please let us know and help get Walden Woods out of the Stone Age!

Common Area Work:
Bill Furnas and the gang are continuing improvements in our 27+ acre private wood reserve. The picnic table is installed and provides great views of sunsets. To see Bill with Caroline at the picnic table enjoying the view check (http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/ptable1.jpg). To find the picnic table, take the main fire road from Vireo (by Los Lagos property boarder) to top of the hill and take a short (40 ft?) pathway to the right up-hill and you'll find it.
Two other pictures are the view (http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/ptable3.jpg) and just the table itself (http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/ptable2.jpg).
For other common area photos and pictures from the Easter Egg hunt check out the Walden Woods Web page: http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/page9.html
Other improvements:
- Foot bridges: The first of four foot bridges are up to span the creeks leading to the picnic area is now finished with final decomposed granite work pathway.
- Fire roads: The fire roads continue to be kept cleared of brush and weeds.
- Poison oak: You should notice lots of poison oak abatement by volunteers including myself.
The next major project after the picnic area is the improvement of the county easement between the Gillum's and Stephenson's which provides access to the common area from Walden Woods Way.
Come pitch in a hand - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are June 2, 16, and 30. Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.
Firewood from the fire-prevention brush clearing is still available. Please contact the common area chairman, Bill Furnas if you wish to obtain some of the firewood.

Road Work
In June and July, the county will be cape sealing the neighborhood roads. This is a multi-week activity. This is a two step process. First they will put down tar covered with lots of gravel. A few weeks later, they will put down a final coating. Before this takes place, the FLMWC will be raising 6 of the valve covers (AKA big potholes) in the road.

Franklin School Entertainment
Friday and Saturday night, the Franklin School students are putting on the play: Orphan Annie. Show time is 7:00 and donations are welcomed. This promises to be wonderful show and a great time to see the new multipurpose room.
More Weekend Entertainment
Here's an idea for a nice weekend evening. It's rumored that the Folsom Lake Waterfest has a fireworks display over the water on this Saturday at 9:30. Take a few camping chairs, a picnic dinner, flashlights and walk on out to our side of the lake and enjoy the show. Unfortunately I have not been able to confirm this yet. Call the park office at 988-0205 or check on the Walden Woods web in the next day or so.

Welcome to the neighborhood:
Like meeting new neighbors? We're looking for volunteers to greet new neighbors to Walden Woods. Show the common area, answer questions about water company, etc.
Reply back if you're interested!

Save the neighborhood kids and pets:
The days are getting longer, school's are about to let out for the summer. Our kids are out in the neighborhood and the neighborhood roads are windy and narrow.
Remember we have a whole new crop of novice bike rides, pet dogs and cats, and kids playing tag. Please drive expecting the unexpected, slow down to 20 mph or below and encourage others to do so as well.

Miscellaneous Items:
- Our Walden Woods entrance sign has been repainted. Check it out!.
