WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY

March 2002 Email News Update

News on the Email News

This issue is a bit early because I’ll be traveling near the end of the month.

Last month's issue was an experiment to find out peoples preference with the format of the newsletter.  Most prefer html, but some could only read the word version.  I’ll try sending this message in these two forms and see how much extra work it is.

To keep the work down and the size of the messages down, I’ll stop using the small graphics with the headers.

Neighbor to Neighbor

This section is for broadcasts by homeowners offering something to their neighbors or asking a question.  This is not a debate or discussion forum (which we actually have on our Walden Woods Web site - click here.)  All items submitted for this newsletter are subject to my arbitrary discretion for inclusion and editing.

q       Hi!  I am Terri Hawkyard, a stay-at-home mom and would love to meet some other families in Walden Woods!  I have a 4-year-old son, Jake, and a 2-year-old daughter, Ashley, and am anxious to meet some other families and make some playdates!!

Is there anyone out there who is interested in doing the same?  Call or write and let's set up a playdate, go hiking in the common area and/or get to know each other!! I look forward to meeting anyone who is interested in getting together!!

q       A second item from Terri:  She is interested in finding some neighbors that are interested on scrapbooking!  She enjoys doing it and has a friend in Roseville who is a Creative Memories Consultant and hosts several workshops each month at her home.  Is anyone in Walden Woods interested in getting together to work on their books?  Terri has 2 small children, lots of photos and a need to meet others in our neighborhood that would like to get together for a scrapbook play date!

Next Walden Woods Block Party - May 3rd

It’s not too early to mark down on your calendar Saturday, the 4th of May for the next wild and crazy Walden Woods Block party.  Cindy Fuzie is our host again.  The rain date, if necessary, is May 11th.  More news next letter!  Here’s a photo Charley preparing beverages at a prior block party.

Folsom Lake Mutual Water

No news is good news.  The FLMWC water utilization still within targets and as a result of everyone's savings, our rates can be held to their current level.

CC&R Update

The CC&R committee has readied the CC&R changes for a homeowners vote.  In the next couple weeks, a summary of the changes will be posted on the web page.  In March, the ballots with the proposed CC&R will be distributed to the homeowners for a vote.  Ballots must be returned within 60 days to count in the election.  If you have any questions, contact Gail Sillers.

Wildflower Walk:

Terri Hawkyard is planning a spring wildflower walk for young kids and the young at heart.

This ought to be lots of fun since quite a few of our children planted wildflower seeds earlier this year.  Here are a few of the pictures from the event - the group, marching to work, Terri planting seeds, others planting seeds  (Photo1, Photo2, Photo3, Photo4), distracted by a pile of dirt and refreshments afterwards.

The date is not final, but she’s expecting it will be on the 1st or 2nd Saturday in April.  She’ll provide a trail mix snack.  If you have questions, just call Terri.  I’ll include a note in the next newsletter as well.

Common Area:

Common Area Trails – I’ve been out in the common area in the middle of some of the recent storms and the trails have held up wonderfully.  Our common area is now a nice area for walks year-round.  The trails are solid, no problem with mud. The scene is still not only attractive but quite different than the summer.  If you’re looking for a few minutes to get out for a walk, try the common area.  Maps can be found on the web page or in your latest directory.

Fire Brush Removal – Take a look in the common area and you’ll some great results from the fire fuel abatement work that took place in the common area.  This year’s effort focused in the southwest corner of the common area.

Firewood Available – Firewood is available again as a result of fire fuel abatement work.  These pieces are available to any homeowner. If you need access by truck into the common area, check with Bill Furnas for a key to the gate.  To see examples of the firewood available check this photo.

Poison Oak Abatement – Essential Design completed their work brushing out much of the poison oak in areas where Victoria and I sprayed last year.  This has helped open major parts of the common area.

Improvements:  Lots of work has gone into the along footbridge along Walden Creek Trail and Vernal Pool Pass.  See photos of the Common Area crew as they re-layout the pathways avoiding the small creek flowing out of the vernal pool.  Here’s a photo of the modified pathway along Walden Creek.

Wild Flowers – The crew finished planting of wildflowers along the pathway.   Check out a photo from last year’s wildflowers!

Join in and help out - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are Saturday, Mar 2nd and 16th.   Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.  Although Bill can’t make it on March 2nd, Denese Holden will cover for him.  Everyone should still meet in Bill’s backyard.

Walden Woods Photos

We often take pictures at neighborhood events (Easter hunt, Moonlight Walks, Homeowner meetings, block parties, etc.) and of the Common Area.  These are stored on a CD, so if you were there and want a copy of the pictures, come on by and you can borrow the Walden Woods Photo CD's.

Directory Updates:

If you didn't get a 2002 Walden Woods Phone Directory, contact Denese Holden.
