Dear Homeowner:

By now you are probably aware that Friends Against Community Endangerment (FACE) is a grassroots organization created by homeowners in Walden Woods, Vogel Valley, Turner Road, Lakeview Hills, Hidden Valley, Christian Lane and Fox Meadow. It was founded to insure that the concerns of homeowners in these communities regarding the Hoffman Company’s "Los Lagos III" development are met. The main objective is not to permanently block the Hoffman development, but to insure it is done in a manner that doesn’t create safety and environmental hazards or traffic burdens on existing homeowners. I don’t want to spend a lot of time in this letter regarding the issues because they have been covered in detail in other correspondence. However, I do want to be clear about what those of us in Walden Woods need to do to insure that our interests are protected. The process is stacked against us unless we all work together.

Several of the solutions that have been suggested by the Hoffman Company and others to meet traffic concerns are not friendly to Walden Woods. They include:

Neither of these is acceptable but if we are not players in the process others who seem to have little concern for our community will decide our fate. Here are some things for you to do:

  1. The Placer County Planning Commission is scheduled to hear this issue on August 26th at 10 a.m. at Dewitt Center in Auburn. You should plan to attend and be prepared to speak, even if just for one minute, about what you expect the county to do to safeguard the interests of our community.
  2. Write a letter to the Planning Commissioners, the Hoffman Company, and Supervisor Jim Williams about your concerns and your expectations. Letters mean a lot. They are kept on file and read by everyone. If you have written before, write again!
  3. Send your check for $50 to FACE. If a majority of Homeowners in all the surrounding Homeowners Associations contribute this small amount we can continue to have quality legal representation we need. If it were not for the fact that FACE has already retained excellent legal assistance, Los Lagos III, as originally proposed, would already be a done deal! The Walden Woods Board fully supports the efforts of FACE and considers its success as critical to the well being of the Walden Woods community. The Board also considers a voluntary contribution by all of us preferable to a mandatory $50 per homeowner assessment by our Association. Checks should be made out to Washburn, Briscoe & Mc Carthy, the FACE legal counsel, and sent to Sandy Tebbs in Lakeview Hills at 8222 North Lake Circle, Granite Bay, CA. 95746 by August 20. If the Association decides that a special assessment is required, those who complied voluntarily will be exempt from an additional assessment.

I hope that you are concerned about this matter as those I have spoken to personally. I have encountered real rage - your neighbors are not pleased about the proposed plans and some of the solutions that have been recommended so far to solve the identified traffic, environmental and safety problems associated with this development. However, when you get past the rage you must remember that our governmental process requires citizen involvement and your active participation. It is designed to give you a voice. Don’t still your own voice.
